South Korean Wireless Carriers Finish Year with 43.49 Million Subscribers

South Korea finished 2007 with 43.49 million mobile phone subscribers, up from 40.197 million at the end of December 2006. This represents a nationwide wireless penetration rate of 89.8%, according to factsheets from operators, South Korea Telecom and KT Freetel.

SK Telecom added 152,000 new subscribers in December to end the year with 21.97 million customers, while KT Freetel recorded monthly additions of 89,000 for an end-of-year user base of 13.72 million. Smaller rival, LG Telecom, meanwhile added 61,000 users in December, bringing its total to 7.81 million.
