Internet search and advertising giant, Yahoo, has won a deal to serve targeted display ads to T-Mobile’s Web ‘n’ Walk customers in Britain, the two companies announced last Thursday.
Yahoo, which is rivaling Google for global dominance of the mobile internet advertising business, already has a deal in place with Vodafone Group. The partnership with T-Mobile gives it access to two of the top four mobile phone networks in the UK.
“Key to bringing brands to mobile is being able to offer them the audience,” commented Gerladine Wilson, the vice president of Yahoo’s Connected Life division. “We already have an agreement with Vodafone and … what that means is we’re building now the kind of interesting scale of audience for advertisers to start considering this medium seriously.”
Mobile advertising is expected to peek the interest of potential advertisers in the coming years partly because of the sheer size of the potential audience, but also due to the highly personal nature of the mobile medium.
“Banner advertising through the Internet on your mobile creates many opportunities for potential advertisers to adopt innovative marketing campaigns,” added T-Mobile’s marketing director, Phil Chapman. “We regard Yahoo as a leader in display advertising, and with its deep understanding of the mobile space and the potential that mobile advertising can offer clients, we’re glad they are on board as our partners.”
