80 million Americans watched one or more TV shows online in last year, representing 43% of the U.S. internet population, according to a recent study by Solutions Research Group.

That’s up from just 25% in 2006, demonstrating massive growth in the number of viewers going online to watch their favourite shows. 20% of survey respondents indicated that they watch internet TV on a weekly basis.

Users ranked ABC.com as the most user-friendly network TV portal, with 52% of respondents describing it as “excellent.” Fox.com came in second place, receiving an “excellent” rating from 44% of those surveyed.

About 21% of visitors to the major network websites are looking to watch a specific TV show, Solutions estimates. Some of the most popular shows to watch online include “Heroes,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “Ugly Betty,” “Chuck,” and “CSI.”
