Sprint Nextel Headquarters Moving Back to Overland Park, Kansas

America’s third largest cell phone provider, Sprint Nextel, said this week that it plans to move its corporate headquarters back to Overland Park, Kansas, and away from Reston, Virginia, where it has been based since Sprint merged with Nextel Communications Inc. in 2005.
Sprint CEO, Dan Hesse, who was hired in December to turn the ailing wireless carrier around, said that most executives would be relocated to Overland Park, although the company would keep a “significant employee presence” in Reston, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
“After a thorough review, we determined that this change is necessary now so that our leadership team can concentrate on improving our company’s operations and create a single, performance-based culture,” Hesse explained.
Sprint spokesman, James Fisher, said that the Sprint hasn’t yet determined when the bulk of this move would take place, but a date isn’t likely to be set until Hesse finishes reviewing the company’s operations and coordinating a number of proposed changes.
“We think that having all senior management in one place close to operations is a good solution to a lot of the issues we face today,” Fisher stated.
