Verizon’s fiber-optic TV and broadband network passed 9.3 million U.S. homes and businesses at the end of December 2007, according to a recent post at the telecom giant’s policy blog.
Verizon wants to extend its network to at least three million additional households per year in order to reach its goal of 18 million households at the end of 2010, covering more than half of its entire potential customer base by that time.
The New York-based telecom giant currently serves some 1.5 million FiOS customers, 1 million of which have signed up for fiber-optic IPTV. It hopes to serve an FiOS customer base of 6 to 7 million by the end of 2010.
