Paris-based telecommunications equipment vendor, Alcatel-Lucent, revealed this week that it has won a contract with WiMAX Telecom to help that company set up a wireless broadband network in Croatia.

The network will be powered by WiMAX 802.16e-2005 Rev-e technology, and will initially be available in the Split and Osijek areas. WiMAX Telecom is a European wireless broadband operator which holds 3.5-GHz spectrum licenses in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, and Slovakia.

WiMAX, which stands for “Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access,” is a family of technologies enabling fixed and mobile broadband and VoIP services in urban, suburban, and rural settings.
