The popularity of the internet, and of broadband in particular, continued to rise in the UK last year, with 60% of the population going online.

eMarketer determined that about 37 million Britons used the internet each month in 2007, and predicts that 70% of the country’s population will be online by 2012. The magazine also expects the UK to account for 40% of western Europe’s online sales this year.

“Britain has one of the most experienced and active online populations in the world,” commented survey author, Karin von Abrams. “Confidence in e-commerce is high.”
