Swedish telecom equipment maker, Ericsson, announced yesterday that it had won a major order from Vodafone in Australia.

Ericsson will provide Vodafone with both hardware and software for an upgrade of Vodafone’s 3G mobile broadband network. The project, which uses HSPA technology, will expand and modernize Vodafone’s facilities throughout the country, giving its customers better access to wireless data services.

“Vodafone has selected Ericsson for a national mobile broadband roll out,” said a spokeswoman for Ericsson, noting that the project would be completed in December of this year. “We’re the primary hardware and software vendor to support this rollout, which is based on HSPA.”
