YouTube Videos Coming to TiVo DVR Service
6:30 am on March 14, 2008 | Category: Internet, Television, Web Services
TiVo users will be able to watch YouTube videos on their television sets by the end of this year, the DVR pioneer announced on Wednesday.
This deal is TiVo’s latest attempt to out-innovate the competition, by allowing customers with a Series3 set-top box and broadband internet connection to stream content from the world’s largest online video portal.
It is also YouTube’s next big move to reach beyond the internet’s traditional boundaries. Fans of the popular online video site can already view its content on some cell phones, as well as Apple TV, a set-top box that streams content from the web, and the agreement with TiVo provides one more outlet.
“TiVo’s strategy is to bridge the gap between Web video and television and make as much content available as possible for our subscribers,†commented Tara Maitra, TiVo’s vice president for content services. “TiVo should be the best experience for all video options, whether it’s coming from cable, satellite or off of a server.â€
