AT&T has begun equipping Starbucks-owned coffee shops with its public Wi-Fi service, as per a nationwide agreement between the two companies announced in February.

This week, Starbucks locations in AT&T’s corporate home town of San Antonio, Texas are being equipped with Wi-Fi, and expansion to more than 7,000 Starbucks outlets will continue to occur throughout the year. AT&T’s existing DSL and U-verse broadband customers will gain free access to the Starbucks hotspots as they are launched.

“By partnering with AT&T as our U.S. Wi-Fi provider, we aim to deliver a better value, greater convenience and seamless connectivity in a mobility-centric world to our customers,” commented Starbucks’ Chief Technology Officer, Chris Bruzzo.

AT&T Inc. is already America’s leading operator of public Wi-Fi, with 17,000 active hotspots throughout the United States, and more than 70,000 internationally.
