Verizon Communications is expanding the presence of FiOS TV in the highly competitive New York metropolitan area, launching the fiber-optic television service in six additional New Jersey towns.

Earlier this week, Verizon began taking FiOS orders Mount Holly and Westampton in Burlington County; Helmetta, Jamesburg, and Sportswood in Middlesex County, and Palisades Park in Bergen County. This brings the total number of New Jersey communities served by FiOS to more than 280.

As FiOS coverage expands with each passing week, competition with incumbent cable companies is increasingly fierce. That competition spilled over into a U.S. District Court in New York on Wednesday, when Verizon filed suit against America’s second largest cable company, Time Warner, alleging false advertising.
