As Bluetooth celebrates 10 years on the market this spring, its developers can celebrate higher than ever brand recognition and appreciation.

Global awareness of Bluetooth short-range wireless technology rose for the fifth year in a row, according to a Millward Brown survey of 2,500 consumers in Britain, China, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. 85% of consumers who make mobile technology purchases now recognize the Bluetooth brand, while around 60% say they own a Bluetooth-enabled device.

78% of those who recognized the Bluetooth brand said they were willing to pay more for products that include the technology, while 57% agreed that Bluetooth “makes their lives easier.”

“The rise in popularity of Bluetooth technology over its ten year existence has been amazing,” commented Michael Foley, Ph.D., executive director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG), a trade organization made up of more than 10,000 companies. “There are 2 billion devices with Bluetooth technology in the marketplace now. What started with mobile phones and headsets has spilled over into nearly every industry from gaming and cars to clothing and toys. Bluetooth technology is now an expected part of the average consumer’s lifestyle.”
