UK landline incumbent, BT, is launching a new “Total Broadband Anywhere” service, in which residential high-speed internet access is packaged together with a free HTC smartphone and unlimited access to the company’s public Wi-Fi hotspots.

“Broadband Anywhere customers get the total broadband experience – BT’s top-of-the-range broadband service at home, and a free BT ToGo smartphone for when out and about or on the move,” explained the managing director of BT’s consumer division, John Petter.

Customers can choose one of two HTC smartphones – the S620 or S710 – both of which are powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0. With these devices, it is possible to access the internet at broadband speeds or make cheap VoIP telephone calls through BT Broadband Talk, while inside any of more than 82,000 BT/FON hotspots in the UK.

Can’t find a hotspot? No problem, says BT, which is offering 10-MB per month of cellular broadband usage, as well as 50 minutes of wireless calling and 50 text messages on any available mobile phone network, as part of the package.

BT Total Broadband Anywhere is now available at a cost of £23.99/month for the first three months, and £29.99/month thereafter on an 18-month contract.
