Chang Xiaobing, the Chairman of Chinese wireless provider, China Unicom, is about to move to larger rival, China Mobile and become CEO of that company, as part of an ongoing restructuring plan.

Top management officials of China’s biggest telecom companies will be reshuffled by the country’s communist government, which owns all major players in the industry, starting later this month. The South China Morning Post suggested yesterday that the long-delayed restructuring effort would begin on May 17 – known as “World Telecommunications Day.”

Once the changes are complete, Ching is expected to take over the day-to-day operation of China Mobile from its current chairman, Wang Jianzhou. China Unicom, meanwhile, will likely be split up and divided between fixed-line telecom giant, China Telecom, and China Netcom, another landline and internet service provider.
