The Global Mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) announced last month that a total of 637 HSDPA-enabled mobile broadband devices are now available worldwide, representing growth of 150% since this time last year.

The number of companies offering HSDPA devices increased from 62 to 110 over the same one-year period. GSA based these findings on a comprehensive survey of product launch announcement at recent wireless industry trade shows, including CES, Mobile World Congress, CeBIT, and CTIA.

“Our latest survey confirms the rapidly expanding eco-system for HSPA and underlines how the HSPA market has developed much faster than other technologies,” commented GSA president, Alan Hadden. “HSDPA networks entered commercial service 30 months ago; the number of HSDPA devices launched worldwide is over twice the number of GSM/EDGE devices and over six times the number of 3G/WCDMA devices had at the same point in their service development.”

The list of HSPA devices currently available include 303 mobile phones, 103 mobile data cards (for laptops and PCs), 103 notebook computers (with data cards built in), 60 wireless routers, 60 USB modems, seven portable media players, and one digital camera.

66 of these devices also support HSUPA, the upstream version of High-Speed Packet Access technology. Astoundingly, the number of HSUPA-enabled devices has doubled in the past six months alone, with the majority of these products offering peak upstream data bandwidth of 2.1-Mbps.
