Trapster Helps Smartphone Users Avoid Speeding Tickets

Drivers have a new way to avoid police speed traps thanks to a new information sharing service for mobile devices.

Trapster, as the service is called, allows users to receive audio alerts before approaching highway radar detectors, and download road maps with radar locations clearly marked. Drivers who download the software are asked to dial “#1″ whenever they see a speed trap, to save the GPS location into Trapster’s database and warn other motorists taking the same route.

Users can also rate the accuracy of tips, so as to filter out bogus locations.

Trapster is now available on about 10 wireless platforms, including Nokia’s smartphones, Research In Motion’s BlackBerry devices, and wireless PDAs using Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating system.
