Markham, Ontario-based Unify4Life has unveiled a new BlackBerry smartphone application that promises to break ground in the convergence of mobile devices and home entertainment.
The software can effectively turn a BlackBerry smartphone into a universal remote control, capable of communicating with home entertainment devices of “all major brands and models.” The Unify4Life server can be plugged into a central location in the home, then programmed to control infrared-enabled flat-panel TVs, stereos, and other devices.
“We’re creating ways to expand the world for BlackBerry users,” commented Unify4Life president, Paul Tennyson. “Unify4Life’s application gives users ultimate control over a wide range of devices in their home and creates a user experience that will change the way BlackBerry fits into people’s everyday lives.”
“Our goal is to provide solutions for consumers who embrace technology for convenience, efficiency and entertainment,” Tennyson explained. “As people seek to use BlackBerry smartphones more prominently in their lives, Unify4Life will become an essential component for the key systems in their homes.”
The Unify4Life BlackBerry package comes with remote control software (v. 1.0), an A/V hub, and SoundStreaming software to stream audio directly from a BlackBerry smartphone to a home stereo system. It will be available in October for US$99, including a two-year service warranty.
