The board of selectmen in the town of Walpole, Massachusetts, voted last week to grant a cable television franchise to New York-based telecom giant, Verizon Communications.

As a result of this decision, Verizon expects to extend its FiOS TV service to about 6,000 of Walpole’s 8,000 households in the coming months. Verizon is aggressively expanding the next-generation pay-TV throughout its service footprint, bundling it with other telecom services such as residential telephone and high-speed internet access.

FiOS TV will soon be available in 69 Massachusetts markets, according to Verizon.
