Aperto Networks, a WiMAX equipment vendor, says that it has won a contract to supply NextPhase Wireless, a wireless ISP in Southern California, with base stations for a forthcoming WiMAX network in the 3.65-GHz band.

Deployment of the NextPhase network will begin in Orange County, then expand into the nearby markets of Los Angeles and San Diego. Eventually, the company will extend its network into other states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

“This is the first of many significant wins we expect to announce this year in the 3.65-GHz band in the U.S.,” commented Aperto’s vice president of Marketing & Alliances, Manish Gupta. “With this lightly-licensed band, as well as the license-exempt 5.8 GHz band which we also support, operators are able to cost-effectively leverage the benefits of our versatile PacketMAX solution and deploy carrier-grade services to enterprise, (small to medium business), and residential markets.”

“We evaluated many competitive products before settling on PacketMAX,” said NextPhase’s VP of Business Development, Mark Kociela. “PacketMAX has an impressive feature set including best-in-class (quality of service) and the ability to scale beyond any other WiMAX base stations in the market.”
