TiVo to Offer Disney Video-On-Demand Content
6:30 am on June 2, 2008 | Category: Business, Television
TiVo Inc., a leading provider of digital video recorders, recently signed a deal allowing its customers to download Walt Disney Co. movies directly on their home television sets.
TiVo subscribers will soon be able to “rent” Disney movies for a period of 24 hours, during which time the films will be stored on their broadband-connected DVR hard drives. This is TiVo’s latest move to offer more on-demand content, in an effort to better compete with cable and satellite companies that have launched their own DVR services in recent years.
The Disney on-demand service, which includes content from Disney-Pixar and Miramax Filmswill be available to TiVo Series2 and Series3 subscribers later this year.
“Our whole focus going forward is to give users unlimited content and control,” commented TiVo’s vice president of content services, Tara Maitra.
TiVo already offers on-demand video and music content through Amazon.com’s Unbox service, and Music Choice, respectively.
