Verizon Communications has announced plans to add more than 60 new FiOS TV channels, including 25 in high-definition, by the end of this summer.
New channels coming to FiOS TV this summer include Animal Planet, Lifetime, Outdoor Channel, Science Channel, Smithsonian Channel, and TLC. Subscribers to Verizon’s Movie Package will also gain access to five new HD channels from Starz Entertainment and Showtime Networks.
“We are aggressively acquiring high-quality programming in both standard and high definition that appeals to a broad array of viewers,” commented Verizon’s vice president of content and programming, Terry Denson, noting that the company would begin phasing in the new channels in early July.
The new additions will bring the FiOS high-definition lineup to between 52 and 65 channels. Verizon still has plenty of work to do, however, in order to meet its target of 150 HD channels by the end of this year.
