TiVo Inc., a leading independent provider of Digital Video Recorders, has announced a new feature allowing customers to purchase products from Amazon.com via their television sets.

“Product Purchase adds a whole new dimension to the TV viewing experience,” said TiVo’s director of Broadband Services, Evan Young. “By teaming with Amazon.com, TiVo enables viewers to purchase products related to their favorite TV shows or that they’ve seen in TV ads without leaving their couch.”

For example, “if a guest on the Daily Show or Oprah has a new book, CD, or DVD out, you can purchase it on Amazon.com using your TiVo remote without missing a second of TV, whether the viewer is watching live or recorded.” TiVo DVRs already allow viewers to pause a program with the click of a button.

The Product Purchase is available, beginning today, to TiVo Series2, Series3, and HD DVR users.

This feature gives Amazon (and its suppliers) a new opportunity to target impulse buyers, while providing TiVo with a presence in the multi-billion dollar digital retail market. Financial terms of the deal between the two companies were not released.
