Ecuador’s state-owned telecommunications carrier, Pacifictel, has selected Airspan’s WiMAX base stations for use in a high-speed wireless broadband network.
Pacifictel plans to deploy WiMAX technology in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador’s main port and most populous city.
“We are very excited to be working with Pacifictel,” commented Airspan’s vice president of sales, Amit Ancikovsky. “We currently have several customers in Ecuador and have deployed thousands of units in this country during the last 12 months. Significant broadband expansion initiatives are already being planned by Pacifictel.”
“This account win is important for a couple of reasons,” added Declan Byrne, Chief Marketing Officer at Airspan. “Firstly because Pacifictel is an established ILEC in a growing economy and a Service Provider that Airspan wants to be associated with as a provider of WiMAX equipment. Secondly, it is yet another new account win for Airspan with our WiMAX solution set, adding to our momentum of account growth across all regions of the world.”
