Leading internet search engine, Google, remains eager to generate revenue from its YouTube video website, and is testing mobile ads for the service, according to a recent statement on the company’s mobile blog.

“You may have noticed that we started running a test of display ads on select pages of the YouTube mobile site in the U.S. and Japan,” explained YouTube product marketing manager, Christine Tsai. “This is our first step in testing mobile advertising for YouTube.”

The current test will provide YouTube viewers with “a new way to interact with content on the go, while allowing us to learn how video viewers engage with mobile advertising,” according to Tsai. “Our test advertisers will also have an additional branding tool at their disposal and the opportunity to reach the millions of people who visit YouTube every day on their phones.”

Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, said last month that finding the right kind of advertising for the YouTube website would be a “holy grail” for the company.
