Global revenues from VoIP telephony services increased 52% to reach $24 billion in 2007, according to a recent report by Infonetics.

Residential VoIP services are currently growing even faster than their commercial IP PBX counterparts, according to the report, as cable phone providers like Comcast win customers from traditional telephone carriers.

“While VoIP services are being embraced by consumers worldwide, businesses have been comparatively slower in their adoption due to various roadblocks,” commented Matthias Machowinski, Infonetics’ director of enterprise voice analysis. “This is about to change, though, as technical issues are resolved.”

Of the 75 million VoIP users around the world at the end of 2007, 26% were businesses, according to the report. This number is expected to grow to 41% by 2011.
