U.S. Internet Video Spending to Top $6-Billion by 2013

American consumer spending on internet-based video services (including IPTV) will reach an annual total of more than $6 billion by 2013, according to a recent Parks Associates study, entitled “Internet Video: Direct-to-Consumer Services.”

Parks analysts expect this growth to be driven by an increase in the number of Americans using networked TVs, connected gaming consoles, and alternative video-on-demand set-top boxes.

“Consumption of premium Internet video content to date has been low,” noted Parks Associates vice president and principal analyst, Kurt Scherf. “Services have been available only on less-than-optimal screens – PCs and portable multimedia players. But new connected products that link to premium Internet video services are emerging at a rapid pace, moving the Internet video viewing experience into the living room.”

By 2013, 75% of internet video revenue will come from direct-to-TV services, the Parks study predicts.

    1. With the microsoft/netflix deal, it’s easy to see why Parks Associates would project numbers like these.
