Verizon Communications has gained regulatory permission to launch its FiOS TV service in the town of Millbury, Massachusetts.

This means that Verizon FiOS, which is seeking to aggressively compete with cable and satellite TV operators throughout the United States, is now available in 79 Massachusetts communities.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring FiOS TV to residents in Millbury,” commented Verizon’s regional president for Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Donna Cupelo. “Since the launch of FiOS TV in Massachusetts last year, we are continuing our efforts to meet the consumer demand for cable TV choice.”

The Millbury agreement includes provisions for future network growth, financial support for educational and government access channels, and service to local government buildings, according to Verizon officials.
