Verizon Communications unveiled some upcoming FiOS TV features at the New York City home of its Chief Information Officer last week, a few weeks after making the fiber-optic television service available in New York City for the first time.

Verizon CIO, Shaygan Kheradpir, hosted “cocktail reception and technology/service demonstration” for media and neighbours at his 38th-floor New York condo overlooking the East River. Company officials showed reporters where fiber-optic cables came into the apartment, and proudly showed off to FiOS-powered high-definition TVs in Kheradpir’s living room.

Ruchir Rodrigues, the company’s vice president for product design and development, announced that Verizon was expanding its use of on-screen widgets, demonstrating an application that allows FiOS users to surf Facebook, a popular social networking website on a TV set.

Verizon also plans to launch new entertainment options, including free on-screen games like Chess, Solitaire, Sudoku, and Wordplay, which users can play using a remote control.

All of the features unveiled at Kheradpir’s party will be automatically available to FiOS customers at no extra charge in the near future.
