A significant percentage of online video viewers are more engaged with web programming than traditional TV, according to a new report by Veoh Networks, a major online video site.

“Engaged viewers,” which Veoh defines as those who watch more than one hour of online video per week, make up nearly 40% of online viewers, and account for 75% of all internet video usage, according to the report. This is good news for advertisers, who are eager to target engaged viewers in any medium.

Younger users aged 13 to 24 currently account for about one third of engaged viewers, and are more likely to watch videos all the way through, and rate or interact with videos.

About 61% of engaged viewers expect to spend significantly more time watching online video over the next year, according to the report, suggesting that the runaway growth of web-based video isn’t finished yet.
