As children start using cell phones at younger and younger ages, and mobile broadband services explode in popularity, demand is increasing for parental controls on wireless devices.

Bell Mobility is seeking to capitalize on that demand with a new service allowing parents to block mobile web content that they deem inappropriate for their kids. For $5/month on top of any prepaid or postpaid wireless bill, parents can access an online dashboard with tools to disallow certain kinds of websites, including pornography.

“As use of the internet on mobile phones grows, fueled by the popularity of smartphones and the fast access speeds delivered by 3G networks, our clients have asked for tools to help them manage access,” said Bell Mobility’s senior vice president of products, Adel Bazerghi, in a statement. “Bell Parental Control offers them content filtering capability on mobile phones for the first time in Canada.”
