Research In Motion co-CEOs, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, were among a group of six business leaders inducted into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame at a luncheon in Toronto this Tuesday.

The two executives were presented with this year’s honour by Junior Achievement of Canada (JAC), and will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame’s “31st Companion Class” at a gala event next May.

The Canadian Business Hall of Fame recognizes business leaders for their outstanding achievements and enduring contributions to Canadian society.

“Each of these six outstanding individuals … has made a significant and valuable contribution to the Canadian business community, the country’s economy and quality of life in Canada,” commented Hall of Fame chancellor Frank McKenna, who also serves as deputy chair of TD Bank Financial Group. “It is my great pleasure to announce these exceptional Canadians as Inductees for their past achievements as well as the legacy they have created for future generations of aspiring young business leaders.”

Research In Motion has gained global recognition in recent years for the popularity of its ‘BlackBerry’ line of mobile smartphone devices.
