Apple iPhone users have collectively downloaded more than 300 million mobile software applications from the iTunes App Store over the past five months, according to Apple’s latest full-page advertisements in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

The App Store now includes over 10,000 pieces of software, including games, web tools, and business productivity solutions. Some of the applications are offered as free downloads, while others must be purchased. Prices are set by software designers, who share revenue with Apple.

Both the number of iPhone applications and the total number of downloads have increased substantially since Apple’s most recent earnings call on October 21 when CEO, Steve Jobs, said that 5,500 iPhone applications had been downloaded a total of 200 million times.

The iTunes App Store has been available since July 11, 2008.
