The latest incarnation of Research In Motion’s BlackBerry Curve device, nicknamed the “Javelin,” has been launched by Canada’s leading cell phone operator, Rogers Wireless, at an earlier date than initially expected.
The new and improved Curve 8900 is RIM’s thinnest device to feature a full QWERTY keyboard. It comes with an enhanced 480 x 360-pixel display, a higher-resolution 3.2-megapixel digital camera, built-in GPS navigation technology, and updated multimedia software.
This device sells for $500 retail, but is being offered at just $180 to customers that sign a three-year Rogers Wireless contract costing a minimum of $52.70 per month.
Close on the heels of its Canadian launch, the Curve 8900 is expected to hit the UK market by December 20, when it will be available through Vodafone, T-Mobile, and Carphone Warehouse.
