American mobile phone operator, Sprint Nextel, has announced a new USB modem for laptop computers that will work on both WiMAX and EV-DO (cellular broadband) networks.

The Sprint U300 device is designed for Sprint EV-DO customers who also make use of the Clearwire WiMAX network (in which Sprint has invested), which recently launched in Baltimore and will become available in other cities in the coming months.

The dual-mode modem will be available on December 21 at a cost of $149.99, for customers who sign a two-year Sprint contract.
