Interest in Networking to Drive Consumer Electronics Sales: Parks Associates

Strong consumer demand for networking features will drive sales of next-generation consumer electronics devices in the years to come, according to a recent study by Parks Associates.
Almost 50% of broadband-connected U.S. households would buy a digital camera with networking capabilities, the study found, while 40% are similarly interested in networked digital photo frames.
Applications linking fixed and portable devices (e.g. PCs and portable media players) are driving interest in networked devices, Parks Associates concludes.
“We’re entering a new stage in home networking, where interoperability between fixed and portable devices defines new user experiences,” explained Parks vice president and principal analyst, Kurt Scherf. “This trend will guide the development of powerful but energy-efficient networking solutions and the design of middleware and user interfaces that can be implemented on multiple devices running a variety of processors and core software.”
