French software developer, Cyanide Studios, has launched its first game for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

Developed by the company’s Canadian subsidiary, ‘iSurf’ allows users to try surfing, mastering increasingly challenging waves and performing over 40 maneuvers. It uses the iPhone’s touchscreen and accelerometers to simulate a real surfing experience.

“The iPhone is a very interesting platform, given its sleek design without buttons or pads, unlike other hardware,” commented Cyanide’s Chief Operating Officer, Fabrice Granger. “This motivated our game designer in the same way as did the [Nintendo] Wii.”

“The decision to develop a game for the iPhone is a natural step for Cyanide, which has been broadening its target hardware platforms over the past couple of years,” Granger added. “Moreover, the App Store is a very attractive distribution channel for developers, even if it is difficult to gain visibility.”

iSurf is now available through Apple’s App Store at an introductory cost of just $2.99.
