American wireless giant, AT&T, has announced plans to offer a new text-focused Nokia handset, targeted at social networking users.

The ‘Nokia Surge‘ will feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel digital camera, multimedia player, and compatibility with corporate and web-based email. It will also come pre-loaded with JuiceCaster, a piece of software that allows users to post pictures and videos onto websites such as Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, and Twitter.

“Launching at $79.99 with a complete e-mail solution, downloadable applications and a full HTML browser with Flash support, Nokia Surge hits the sweet spot between a quick messaging phone and a smartphone because of its low-price and strong feature set,” said vice president, Michael Woodward, of AT&T’s mobile phone division.

The new phone will be available in the U.S. on July 19, costing $79.99 on a two-year AT&T contract.
