Telus Extends Satellite TV Service to 90% of BC/Alberta Households

Vancouver-based telecom operator, Telus Corp., has made good on a promise to offer satellite television service in Alberta and British Columbia, so as to complement its growing IPTV network.
Telus satellite TV, which is offered through a deal with Bell Canada, offers more than 500 digital television channels, about 80 of which are high-definition. It is now available to over 90% of households in BC and Alberta, the company said in a news release.
“We’re very committed to providing that triple play of video, local and broadband across the widest footprint possible,” said Telus’ vice president of network services, Chris Langdon. “So we’re really excited about Telus satellite and we think it has lots of legs for Telus.”
Even so, the company will continue investing aggressively in broadband networks, and expanding its in-house Telus TV network.
“We very much view the two services — both satellite and IP TV — as complementary and it just puts us in such a better position to offer bundles across a much broader percentage of households,” Langdon explained.
