Rogers “Formatting Error” Fuels Speculation about $99 iPhone 3GS
7:20 pm on August 10, 2009 | Category: Mobile Devices, Wireless, Cell Phones
Rogers Wireless may be planning to offer an 8GB version of Apple’s iPhone 3GS device for $99, according to rumours in the blogsphere today, although the company itself denies the report.
An 8GB model of the iPhone 3GS (which currently comes only in 16GB and 32GB) was briefly promoted on Rogers’ website, but has since been removed. A screenshot is still available at CultOfMac.com.
Rogers now claims that the inclusion of the 8GB 3GS was due to a “formatting error,” and that no such product actually exists.
Speculation about a cheaper, stripped down iPhone 3GS will undoubtedly continue for some time to come, but it will ultimately be up to Apple to build and release one.
