American telecom equipment maker, Avaya Inc., has won an auction for Nortel’s enterprise networking business, agreeing to pay $915 million for the bankrupt company’s assets.

Avaya is paying a “reasonable” price for the unit and shouldn’t have too much “difficulty in making this a profitable acquisition,” according to Forrester Research analyst, Henry Dewing.

Only one other bidder participated in the auction, according to Joel Hackney, president of the Nortel division.

Hackney declined to name the other bidder, but said he expects the deal with Avaya to close by the end of this year.
