Sony Ericsson has unveiled a new smartphone, the XPERIA X2, which will begin shipping in the fourth quarter of this year.

Much like its predecessor, the X2 will feature a sliding QWERTY keyboard as well as built-in Wi-Fi, HSDPA, and advanced GPS capabilities. It will also come equipped with a new and improved 8.1-megapixel digital camera.

The XPERIA X2 will be one of the first devices to run Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows Mobile 6.5, giving Sony Ericsson a slight competitive edge in terms of software. The company already offers a number of devices based on Windows Mobile 6.0, and is currently in the process of developing an Android-based smartphone.
