The city of Toronto launched its long-awaited ’311′ service yesterday, providing residents with quick access to local information and non-emergency services.

The 24-hour phone line can be used to report non-urgent problems such as potholes, or inquire about the location of city facilities such as libraries and community centers.

“We are transforming forever the way we do public service,” declared Toronto Mayor, David Miller, who initially promised the 311 service during his 2003 election campaign.

A review of the new service is available in today’s Toronto Star.
