82% of Canadians Have Home Internet Access, Ipsos Reid Reports

For the first time ever, more than four in five Canadians have internet access in their homes, according to a new poll by Ipsos Reid.
82% of those surveyed reported having a home internet connection and the vast majority of these people get online using some form of broadband. Online 8% of Canadians still use dialup internet services, researchers found.
Older Canadians still have a slightly lower rate internet usage, with 69% of those 55 and over reporting a connection in the home. This number is growing quickly, however, increasing 12% in less than two years.
The ongoing economic downturn has not put a damper on Canadian internet statistics and may have actually increased the rate of adoption, as more and more Canadians use the internet to save money and find new jobs.
“Even in difficult economic times, Canadians understand that having Internet access is essential in today’s society,” concluded Mark Laver, author of the Ipsos Reid study.
