Ontario Implements Ban on Cell Phone Use While Driving

Ontario will begin enforcing a ban on cell phone use behind the wheel tomorrow morning, making it the fourth Canadian province to implement such legislation.

The Ontario law bans drivers from using any handheld device to email, text, or talk. It also applies to portable entertainment devices, including video games and DVD players, but not to hands-free cell phones. Those who violate the ban could face fines of up to $500.

92% of Ontario drivers plan to comply with the new law, according to a recent Angus Reid survey.
