Ottawa, Ontario-based patent holding company, Wi-LAN Inc., has licensed its broadband technology to Japan’s leading ADSL equipment supplier, NEC Corp.
“We are very pleased that NEC … has taken a license to our DSL technologies,” said the vice president of Wi-LAN’s wireline technologies division, Derek Nuhn. “WiLAN’s DSL technology provides superior data rates, greater communications range, and reduces power consumption of ADSL modems and central office equipment.”
NEC is the eighth licensee of Wi-LAN’s DSL technologies, and the 204th company to take advantage of the Ottawa firm’s extensive patent portfolio.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
