Canada’s newest cell phone carrier, Globalive Communications, will release pricing information and open its first stores on Wednesday, the company announced today.
Globalive, which will offer wireless services under the ‘WIND Mobile’ brand name, has been given special permission to operate by the federal government. Its launch was initially blocked by a CRTC ruling, due to foreign ownership regulations, but that decision was overruled by cabinet on Friday.
The WIND Mobile network is already up and running in Toronto and Calgary, where it is being bested by “beta” customers. The company plans to open a total of 16 retail outlets in these cities on Wednesday.
WIND Mobile “will provide voice, text and data services to Canadians on a next-generation wireless network and is committed to offering a level of wireless service presently not available in Canada,” Globalive said in a statement earlier today.
