Japanese Professors Develop “Vision-Based” Mobile Phone Interface
5:24 pm on January 3, 2010 | Category: Wireless Technology, Mobile Devices, Cell Phones
Tokyo University professors, Masatoshi Ishikawa and Takashi Komuro, have developed a new control interface for mobile phones which could ultimately rival the touchscreen display.
The so-called “vision-based input interface” uses a tiny camera to record movements of the user’s fingers then translate these movements into commands. Although this technology will undoubtedly involve a learning curve for users, it could potentially allow for faster and more dynamic control than a built-in keyboard or touchscreen display.

Great - let’s contribute even more to the horrendous killings in the DRC who supply over 80% of the Coltan needed for our frivolous and irrelevant trinkets. Disgusting waste for nothing.

This is good stuff. Although I think where this could go even faster is using those mind controllers that are used in gaming that send commands through thought.
This would be good for computer, however the cell adaptability seems minimal - EXCEPT for texting, navagation and games.
It also cuts down on parts costs, potentially.

Yes, clearly revolutionizing the speed and efficiency of human-computer interfaces is frivolous. It’s not like anyone uses computers for anything.
I’m not saying things shouldn’t be done about that coltan stuff you mentioned. But you’re not going to get many people on your side with your anti-progress argument.

FYI to the first comment, check your facts, Australia is the worlds lead producer and export, not the DRC.
