Rogers Wireless Patches HTC Dream 911 Glitch
4:14 pm on January 25, 2010 | Category: Mobile Devices, Wireless, Cell Phones, Software
Canadian cell phone operator, Rogers Wireless, has released a software update fixing a much-publicized 911 glitch on the HTC Dream smartphone.
For the past week, Dream users have been asked to disable the phone’s GPS features as a workaround solution. This request was not popular with customers, however, given that GPS technology is necessary to properly run a wide range of smartphone applications.
Users can now safely switch their GPS chips back on after downloading the patch from http://www.rogers.com/dreamsoftwareupdate.
Subscribers that were affected by the glitch will receive one month of free mobile data access as a courtesy gesture from Rogers.

the new ROM is less then desirable. my phone is quirky now.. random reboots.. loss of 2g/3g connection for long periods of time.. i would have rather not dialed 911 and had a phone that worked…

Rogers refuses to reestablish my 3G connection until I install the patch. This patch is known to have many bugs and disables features that I have come to rely on while using custom ROM’s. I am have never had any problems with 911 as the bug was found and fixed by the Android community over four months ago. Rogers is just using this as an excuse to get rid of people using custom ROM’s
