Satellite communications operator, Telesat, will launch its newest Nimiq 6 broadcasting satellite in mid-2012, the company has announced.
The new satellite was purchased from Space Systems/Loral last week, and will be leased to Bell Canada to support that company’s direct-to-home satellite television service.
“I’m very pleased that Telesat has ordered a new, state-of-the-art satellite for our largest customer, Bell TV, enhancing Bell’s ability to deliver advanced High Definition TV and other video services for their subscribers throughout Canada,” said Telesat president and CEO, Dan Goldberg.
The Nimiq 6 has an estimated lifespan of at least 15 years.
