The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) has teamed up with the Canadian Centre for Child Protection to launch textED.ca, a new website teaching teens to stay safe and avoid harassment over text messaging networks.

“Adolescent behavior is less inhibited with the use of technology, so they tend to say and do things that they might not otherwise do in person,” commented Centre for Child Protection executive director, Lianna McDonald. “The textED.ca site has been created to help educate youth about how to use technology respectfully and safely, and to know what to do when someone crosses the line.”

The site includes interactive quizzes, games, and discussion forums. It will provide the basis for a three-lesson Grade 7 course in text messaging safety, which is expected to reach classrooms across the country this September.
